I have just started taking an interest in a worldwide movement which Father John Main initiated. The movement is The World Christian Community for Meditation. WCCM for short. If you google this you will discover a website that is very informative about how to join a meeting in your particular location. https://wccm.org/
I have only just started looking at this and after 5 sessions had one session which produced the result that I was hoping for.
I would describe it for you like this. We had an opening prayer followed by a brief reading from one of the past masters of Meditation Bede Griffiths ISBN 0-87243-199-1 “Arranged for daily reading.” A part of THE MODERN SPIRITUALITY SERIES by Templegate Publishers $4.95c. This was followed by the sound of a gong, which was followed thirty minutes later by the repeat of the same gong. All my previous sessions the thirty minutes had seemed like an age where I fretted about whether I had fallen asleep and the meeting was long over. Had my internet connection dropped? Was anyone else still in the meeting? Had they all slipped away? without telling me the meeting had ended.
THIS SESSION NONE OF THAT FRETTING. The end gong took me by complete surprise. In fact, if I am honest, it made me jump as in my head we had only been meditating for three or four minutes. Now question “Where the heck was I for those 25 missing minutes?” I had let go of consciousness completely. If I had faith I would answer my own question by saying, “Easy where I was is obviously in the presence of GOD!
I had followed the simple instructions to the letter this session. The Suggested mantra “MA” “RAh” “NAr” “THAr” said as four seperate sylables, repeated over and over again for the whole session. Any distraction and start afresh again. Nothing must interfere with saying the mantra which is a word in the language that Jesus spoke (ARAMAIC) and it means “The Lord is coming.”
John Main refers to this form of meditation as praying without words.
It is, as previously stated, very early days as yet. As I learn and experience more I will expand this page so that you can gain from my practice of meditation with a WCCM group.
